| Description | The Louisa Department of Social Services (VDSS) provides assistance to citizens of Louisa to help them live their best lives. One child, one senior citizen, one person at a time, Virginia and Louisa DSS programs and services help people triumph over poverty, abuse and neglect, achieve self-sufficiency and shape strong futures for themselves, their families and their communities.
General Description: This is a professional position The incumbent performs complex and sometimes difficult tasks to coordinate the delivery of Social Services programs such as Child Protective Services, Adult Services Prevention Services and Foster Care. The Social Work Supervisor may report to the Director, Administrator or a Senior Social Work Supervisor.This position shares 24 hour on-call duty for CPS/APS. Louisa DSS employees are required to staff Emergency Shelter Operations as needed. Core Responsibilities: Ensures compliance with State, Federal and Local policies for assigned programs. Knowledge of child protective services law, policy and procedures. Knowledge of Comprehensive Services Act law, policy, and procedures including the purpose and operation of the FAPT. Supervises staff and performs related human resources functions. Interprets and clarifies program policies and procedures. Experience in testifying and presenting cases to the Court and in preparing written reports and assessments to the Court. Ability to input and extract information into the Services data management system (OASIS) Establishes and maintains good working relationships with internal and external customers. Educates public and others on CPS and prevention policies and procedures. Provides proactive response to needs of clients and citizens. Provides direct services as appropriate, including investigating child abuse/neglect complaints. Ability to work independently and use sound judgment. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Knowledge of supervisory principles and techniques; Knowledge of social work principles and practices; knowledge of human behavior and knowledge of how social, economic, health and cultural factors affect client and family situations; knowledge of relevant community and pubic resources; ability to respond to client's emotions. Have the ability to interpret laws, policies and regulations; ability to make and implement case decisions. Must be able to organize/prioritize work; and to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Demonstrated computer literacy, preferably in Microsoft Office and OASIS software. . Minimum Qualifications: Requires a Bachelor's Degree in a human services field or a Bachelor's Degree in any field accompanied by a minimum of two (2) years of related experience in a human services area. Special Requirements: Valid Commonwealth of Virginia Driver's License or ability to travel to investigation sites as needed; Criminal Records Check; Child Protective Services Central Registry Release of Information Check; Work beyond normal work schedules - including On-call Rotations, weekends, holidays and nights. |
