Economic Development - Air
Freeman Field
Since it's completion in 1987, Freeman Field at the Louisa County Industrial Airpark provides local air service and has undergone many improvements including expanding the runway to 4300 feet long and 100 feet wide. The airport is equipped with a localizer and a constant current lighting system to allow pilot controlled activation. Five aviation-related businesses and 55 aircraft are based at the facility. There are approximately 46 hangars now located at the airport and space for more to be added.

The oldest public use airport in Louisa County is the Lake Anna Airport which has been a public local service airport since 1966 and continues to operate today with a lighted paved 2,560 foot long runway.

Lake Anna Airport
The Airport situated in Bumpass, VA, was formally known as the, “Rest-A-While” Airport and the name was changed to the Lake Anna Airport when purchased by the Late, Doctor Ludovic De Vocht and his wife Gabrielle in 1980. He sold it in 1990 and repurchased it in 1995 when the owner defaulted on his loan. It was purchased in May of 2004 by the current owner; Mile High Charters, LLC and continues to operate as a privately owned public use airport supported by funding from the Department of Homeland Security and the State Department of Aviation.

The airport is in the design phase of a runway widening and overlay project to improve it in accordance with State Minimum Safety Standards and is listed in the airport overlay airspace protection zoning for Louisa County. It has 3 based aircraft and due to its close proximity to Lake Anna, the airport is a favorite stop for out of state property owners who wish to park their aircraft during Lake excursions. There is aircraft tie down space available as well as limited hangar space.

Technical information on the airport can be found on the State’s website www.doav.virginia.gov or www.airnav.com under the 3 digit code of 7W4.
